[this is good]
Hey there Lightchaser -- thanks for the comment on the HBO series... you'll have to post when you're done with this book (since I don't want to give out any spoilers...). I still think its in my Top-5. It was so different than most of the fantasy stuff thats sold.
Aye, I finished it last night... breathtaking stuff!

I knew I was reading something totally different -- when a) they threw an 8-yo boy out of a window... and b) when he killed off the person that until then I had thought would be the main protagonist.

I walked around for a week going --- Did he really just kill off Ned?

Hahaha I'd have killed you if I read that without finishing the book! I'm grateful you were cautious enough to wait for the green signal ;o) But seriously... I was so upset when he died... another thing I liked a lot about the book was how I started out hating Daenerys Targaryen and Khal Drogo but by the end of it my heart bled for them. (Except for that totally weird last scene with the baby dragons, hehe -- wtf was that?!).

hahah -- yeah, they don't call them "spoilers" for nothing! So the question is: will you have to patience to read them over time, or will you devour all that's around immediately? (I'm to the point where I want to wait until he's done, but I know I'll buy the next one as soon as it comes out...)

There's a really good website that offers chapter summaries that I've gone back to before reading a new book to refresh my (somewhat faulty) memory without having to do a complete re-read.

Steve, would you believe that I don't have the next few books on me right now? I'm on holiday and I've left the books back at law school! No point buying them all over again! I didn't expect to like the series so much so I didn't bring the rest along, thinking they'd just add to baggage weight. How wrong I was!

So the new Harry Potter and the new GRRM shall be out within a month or two of each other! Yay!
I read this primarily because I saw your review, and I wasn't disappointed. How many books comprise this series? Is it complete, or is the writing still in progress? What are your opinions of the other books in the series that you have read?
There are three others out now -- A Clash of Kings, A Song of Swords, and A Feast for Crows. I'm reading the last one right now. A fifth is expected very soon -- A Dance With Dragons -- and there are supposed to be two more after that! I'm glad you liked the book. IMO it gets even better as you go further -- I found A Song of Swords absolutely gripping.
Thanks very much for the information. :)
