9 Best Train Journeys in the World

Comments

I think the Trans-Siberian one as well, with the one through the fjords coming in second. What fun those would be!
Oh yes, the Trans-Siberian looks awesome. Too bad I'm stuck with unimaginative Amtrak here...

I'm terrified of heights but I would pick the India one.
One of each, please.
The Swiss Alps and The Norwegian Fjords would both be great but anythign heading back to Venice is a no brainer for me.
oh yeah i've planned on trans-siberian twice but both times, things fell through. on one occasion, i was walking to the ticket office in beijing to buy the tickets but a phone call forced my plans to change.

one day...one day.
I'd have a very hard time choosing between the Venice Simplon Orient-Express and the Palace on Wheels.

I would choose the Cooper Canyon Railway in Mexico . or one in Peru - or one in Australia.. they were listed as, 9 MORE fabulous train journeys.

But, I would not be satisfied with a train.. I'd want to get out and mingle, and explore..

If you make the trip from Bergen to Oslo with "Bergenbanen" in the spring please make a stop at Finse just before you try "Flambanen". You will see some place where the first scenes of Star-Wars Episode 5 were taken. And if it's stormy, you are inside indeed ;-)

Thanks for posting this. I've been looking for such a list for a while.
