Perfection

Nice.

"Something" was in the air last night...take a look at Paxton's site, a great little piece about "Nothing"

I agree.
If the world were perfect, there would be no room to grow. No competition, no goals, no meaning to live.

This sounds like Buddhist philosophy...very intriguing. I would have never thought of nothingness as perfection, but what an interesting angle. Nothingness sounds so scary, yet according to Buddhism, it's not supposed to be. It's supposed to be very freeing, but I have yet to approach that level of freedom. Yours is certainly a refreshing view.
Did you ever read "The Lathe of Heaven" by UK LeGuin?
Earlier this year, actually. I didn't love it, but it was ok. Why? Does this sound like LeGuin's philosophy?
In some ways -- the protagonists last wish is that there is no more war and conflict between people, and the resulting world is one where everyone is the same -- same color, same thoughts, no differences -- and it wasn't a very nice place. To me, it means that the the things that infuriate us about this world are the same things capable of bringing joy.

If the only thing we can be certain of is the certainty of human fallibility, then if the world was perfect, we would ask,

"What would the world be like if everything were perfect?"

Thanks for the reference. I checked it out and was totally impressed. Very very nice.

Interesting point. I think if the world was perfect then it wouldn't end up being perfect because we'd all get bored of everything being perfect. Things are only "good" in relation to things being "bad." We cannot know one without the other.

Well, perfection can never happen when more than one person is involved. Face it, we all have an opinion. :)
